It’s here! Completely redesigned to be 3D printed!
From what we have seen there isn’t a clean solution for a CarPlay/Android Auto head unit in the Vanagon.
So we made one! We have been using it for over a year and we love it.
Why we love it-
– It’s clean and simple
– Fits in the ashtray location on the dash with perfect viewing angles
– No big monitor housing
– No ugly robot arms holding up screens
– The head unit we’ve chosen is affordable and wireless to your phone.
– Easy installation and removal
– No drilling- gluing, or sticking
– Integrated GoWesty Stereo Toggle Kit or whatever switch you may want to use.
What you need:
1: Stereo Keyed Power Toggle Kit – or the like
2: 2024 CARPURIDE C98 9 Inch Car Play Screen for Car – under $100 and works great!

We use the Stereo Keyed Power Toggel as a way to power and control the Head Unit as well. Check out the GoWesty video below to understand how that works.
Adding the CARPURIDE C98
(Note I am not an electrician- I’m purely showing 1 option for how to hard-wire the CARPURIDE into your van)

Power: There are several options here.
- Hard Wire as is shown here: Note because they have moved to USB-C for Power you will need a 12V to 5V buck converter (we can supply)
- Use the provided 12V plug through the back of the dash to the cigarette lighter
- If you have updated your cigarette lighter to USB C you use a USC cable
Audio: AUX Cable
- Shown here running a cable from the CARPURIDE C98 to the stereo AUX port
- This can be routed behind the dash and out just about the center heater console
- Another possible option is to purchase the more premium CARPURIDE 9 inch W901 Plus (we have not tested) It looks as if it has multiple Bluetooth channels to allow for both phone connection and stereo connection. Try at your own risk but that could delete the blue aux cable in the diagram.
FAQ’s
- Do I have to use the Carpuride Screen?Answer: Most likely no. From our research, it appears that many of the screen manufacturers use the same mounting cleats. When buying your device look for an image like the one below. That said buy at your own risk and we do not have full confirmation on every device. Nor have we tested weight distribution on other screen proportions.

- I live in a hot climate will it all melt in the sun?Answer: If anything gets hot enough it will melt. The Smart Tray Mount is made of PETG plastic. If left at over 200 degrees Fahrenheit for prolonged periods you may start to see some warping.
- Why print in PETG and not an even more heat-resistant filament like Nylon?Answer: Cost – I want to get as many of these into the community as possible. It already requires a separate purchase of the screen so if I have to double the price to print in Nylon for a small number of users it’s not efficient.Note: If you are concerned about this and want to discuss a special Nylon printed option please contact me.
